 CGSSSA Basketball

Junior Report
On May 25, the Junior Basketball team went to Bankstown to compete in the CGSSSA Basketball competition. We were all extremely excited and eager to win. Our first game against Trinity College Auburn was tight. We fought hard but in the end we lost by two. Despite this loss we went on to win four of our six games which meant that we placed 3rd in our pool overall, which was a great achievement. Unfortunately we lost by one in the Semi Final. However we had a fun day and really bonded as a team which was the most important thing.

I would really like to thank Miss Bray, our coach, and the teachers and parents who came to support us on the day.

Intermediate Report
On May 25, the St Ursula’s CGSSSA Intermediate Basketball squad travelled to Bankstown Basketball Stadium for an exciting day. The intermediate team played 6 games each with 10 minute halves. We won the first two games against St Scholastics and Santa Sabina. The remaining four games were played well and we put up a good fight, but we were unfortunately beaten.

We would like to thank our coach, Miss Warnock, who did a fantastic job of training us and who was very supportive throughout the actual day.

Senior Report
After a month of intense, gruelling training, St Ursula’s Senior Basketball Team arrived at the Sutherland courts eager for a challenging day ahead. We started the day well with two wins against OLMC Burraneer and Rosebank College, however we lost to Woolwich. Fortunately through persistence and sheer determination the senior team made it to the semi-final and were victorious with a 13-10 win! The team progressed into the Grand Final against Woolwich for a nail biting game which we eventually won 12-11 in the last second!
Thank you to our coach Mr McGuire for his time, hard work and motivation and congratulations to the girls on a fantastic effort and well deserved win!

 CGSSSA Cross Country

On May 20, fifteen St Ursula girls represented the College at the CGSSSA Cross Country tournament. All the girls ran at their very best, completing the gruelling 4 km run around Homebush. I would like to make special mention of Taylor Stark, who placed first, and Erin Camenzuli who placed 13th. Taylor now advances to the NSW CCC Championships and we wish her the best of luck.

We would like to thank our coach, Mr Baker, for training us and for his support, and Mr Horder who also supported us on the day.

 CGSSSA Gymnastics

CGSSSA Gymnastics was held at Five Dock Leisure Centre, on June 8. Twelve St Ursula’s girls competed in levels 2, 3, 4 and 7, which was very pleasing to see as the team has increased in numbers in the past year. The St Ursula’s team included: Jasmin Cooper, Sarah Lorente, Emelia Petrovic, Teagan Busuttil, Danielle Alberici, Catherine Alvarez, Nichola Walker, Claire Ferguson, Stephanie Niforos, Carley Beatriz, Stephanie Hespe and Rosie Willson. In the lead up to the event, the girls had been excited and a little nervous, but on the day they were focussed and very competitive.

Some results on the day were:
• Jasmin Cooper (Year 7) Level 4 – 1st on bars, 1st on beam and 2nd overall.
• Stephanie Hespe (Year 10) Level 7 – 1st on beam, 1st on bars, 1st on floor, 2nd on vault and 1st overall.
• Rosie Willson (Year 11) Level 7 – 2nd on bars, 3rd on beam, 3rd on vault, 2nd on floor and 3rd overall.

It was a wonderful day with great achievements and personal bests achieved by all the girls. Their hard work at training really paid off. Hopefully we will see the same girls competing next year although more new girls would be more than welcome. There has even been talk of an early start in preparing for next year’s competition!

Thank you to Miss Warnock and Andy, our CGSSSA Gymnastics coach, for their support and hard work.

Intermediate Report
On Wednesday 27 July the Intermediate Netball team fought it out in the CGSSSA Netball. Our team went out strong winning the first two games, which started the day off well. The next two games were very close but we ended up losing by a couple of goals. It came down two our last two games as to whether we would make it into the quarter-finals; luckily we won both with good scores and big smiles all around.

Our first game in the quarter finals was against the top team. We all went out hard and determined to win, which paid off because we won, which sent us through to the semi-finals. This was a very intense game that unfortunately we loss by only two goals. During the game we had our school cheer squad on the side line cheering us on, and intimidating the other team, which was great for us.

On behalf of the team i would like to say we couldn’t of got through the day without the help of our excellent coach, Miss Warnock, who provided us with good tactics, game plan and support. Thank you to all the supporters who came on the day and helped us out. All in all the Intermediate team finished 4th out of 12. It was an exciting day and we all can’t wait for next year.

Senior Report
The St Ursula's senior team for the CGSSSA Netball competition this year consisted of Katarina Moric, Jodie Watt, Monique Crawford, Taylor Mustow, Sarah Watson, Natalie Katholos, Chelsea Hall, Abbey Gibson, Angela Zimmerman and Heather Burns.   Unfortunately Venessa Blundell injured herself the week before the carnival but was a great scorer and team supporter on the day.  The team worked really well together with excellent combinations to help us come in second in our pool. Unfortunately we lost our semi-final to Mount Saint Joseph Milperra to end a very exciting yet tiring day. We would all like to thank our coach Miss Beard, our umpire Hannah Lattouf and the parents and friends who came along to support and help us through the day.

 CGSSSA SOCCER

On Wednesday 30 March, two teams represented the school in CGSSSA Soccer Day. The day was very busy and unfortunately the junior and senior teams were playing in fields that were so far apart, so we couldn’t offer each other much support during the games.

The junior team battled through their games with close scores of 1-0 win, 1-1 draw and 1-0 loss. They then progressed to the semi-finals where they won 2-1, going on to play the Grand Final against Woolwich which they lost 1-0 after an extremely close game.

The seniors also played extremely well throughout the day showing true teamwork and sportsmanship.  They drew their first game 0-0 against Monte but won their remaining games 4-0, 2-0, 3-0. The seniors finished 1st in their pool therefore progressing into the semi-finals! The team fought to win in a close and competitive game against Woolwich but the teams couldn’t be separated. This resulted in a penalty shoot-out, where St Ursula’s missed out by one goal.

A disappointing final result for both teams but still a fantastic effort from to reach the top category of the CGSSSA Finals! Congratulations to all the girls who competed, showing great skills and teamwork! A big thank you to Mr Ratcliffe and Mr Wales for being great coaches, and to all the parents and families who came and supported St Ursula’s on the day!
