Introduction

The following VET courses are offered at St Ursula’s:  Hospitality; Retail Services; and Business Services.  VET courses deliver dual qualifications for the HSC and for industry through the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF).  These qualifications are recognised by industry and employers throughout Australia.  VET courses require students to spend a minimum of 70 hours in the workforce over two years.

Stage 6 (Years 11 and 12)

Hospitality
The Hospitality curriculum framework is based on the National Hospitality Training Package.  The course has been developed in response to the needs of the industry.  It is based on Units of Competency, which provide the relevant education, practical training, and industry awareness.  This course provides students with skills and knowledge desired in industry professionals.  This course aims to provide students with appropriate learning opportunities, suitable for employment within a hospitality environment, and to provide pathways for university courses in hospitality/tourism management, and other tertiary studies. On completion of 240 hours study and 70 hours workplacement students will be eligible for the Certificate I in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations).

Retail Services
The Retail Services curriculum framework has been developed to provide students with the opportunity to gain credit towards the NSW Higher School Certificate and credit towards National Vocational qualifications in the retail industry under the Australian Qualifications Framework.  The purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills to enable the individual to commence a career and be an effective employee in the retail industry.  The course is designed to enable students to acquire a range of technical, personal and organisational skills valued both within and beyond the workplace.  Through the study of this subject students will gain experiences that can be applied to a range of contexts. On completion of 240 hours study and 70 hours work placement students will receive a Statement of Attainment towards Certificate II in Retail Services.

Business Services
This course is for students who wish to work in clerical and administrative occupations.  It is a useful course for students who wish to learn computing and other skills for many aspects of employment.  Students will develop skills drawn from seven areas:  information handling, communication, enterprise, technology, organisational, team, business and financial.  Students will gain confidence in these competencies to enable effective participation in work, further education and adult life.  The Business Services curriculum framework provides an opportunity for students to successfully participate in the course, including those who have Special Education needs. On completion of 240 hours study and 70 hours work placement students will be eligible for the Certificate I in Business Services.
